Supreme Court’s writ to put on hold thromde elections a landmark ruling-OppositionThe Opposition Party, Druk Phuensum Tshogpa says they welcome the Supreme Court’s writ issued to the Election Commission to defer Thromde elections in the remaining 16 dzongkhags.

The Opposition said they opposed establishment of Dzongkhag Thromdes and Yenlag Thromdes in parliament sittings.

“The irrational and mad rush to establish 20 Dzongkhag Thromdes and 20 Yenlag Throms at one go is the biggest among many blunders of the government that could have caused irreparable damage to the future of the nation by proliferation of unsustainable throms, and loss of agricultural land…” the press release says.

The news release also states the Opposition Party regrets that the government did not heed to their suggestions to take more realistic approach on institution of Thromdes and Yenlag Thromdes in the country.

They also say it would have resulted in major undesirable alterations in social, cultural, economic and natural landscapes.
