Aug 22, 2011

Motorists and residents in Gelephu are complaining about the condition of the road in the town, particularly the road leading to Tali Dratshang, the fishery farm and the town.

The road is in bad shape. In places, it is riddled with pot holes. In other places, it is bumpy. The road needs maintenance badly.

Tshering Gyeltshen, a resident, said “the condition of the road is not befitting of a town. A town must have proper roads. The condition is so bad, it could lead to accidents.”

Lhendrup, another resident, said “vehicles have been damaged due to the bad road condition. It is problematic while giving way to approaching vehicles.”

According to Kinga, “Gelephu is a Class A town. If we look at the road condition, it is no better than any small town. It’s difficult to drive around.”

An official from the Municipal Corporation I.P Phuyal assured that the roads will be maintained. He said the maintenance works will begin by first week of October.
