Consumer Inflation on a steady rise

Consumer Inflation on a steady riseAfter receding to an all time low, Bhutan’s consumer inflation has been on a steady increase since March this year. The inflation increased from 2.9 percent in March to 3.3 percent in May, this year.

Domestic inflation recorded by the national statistics bureau increased much more than imported inflation. This means, prices of locally available goods and services increased more than those imported.

Prices of fuel in the market have also been on slight increase since the beginning of 2016. In the month of June, fuel prices increased twice with both diesel and petrol prices increasing by almost Nu 2.

According to international financial institutions, Bhutan’s consumer inflation has favorably decelerated at a rapid pace. However, it is expected to reach 5 percent soon.
