Graduates brush up their dzongkha

Jul 26, 2011

With the royal civil service examination just around the corner, university graduates are rushing to the two dzongkha language institutes in the capital to brush up their written and spoken dzongkha.

Although dzongkha is taught in schools and through college, many university graduates find the national language a difficult subject.

The Dzongkha Language Institute which was established in 2005 enrolled 235 graduates. To cope with the rush, classes are being held in six shifts.

The second institute, the Dzongkha Development Training institute, which was established in 2002, has 120 students this month. The institute provides month long courses, from June to September, aimed at graduates preparing for the civil service officer’s selection examination.
