Man arrested for attempting to take two girls to Thimphu

Jul 25, 2011

Gelephu police have apprehended a 28-year-old man who was allegedly attempting to take two teenage girls to Thimphu to work as dancers in a drayang (a bar with dancing girls).

The man reportedly said he was a film producer and a director and offered roles in a film that he is producing. He even promised them that they would be sent abroad to train or act in films.

He said he was in the process of shooting the film in Surrey in Gelephu.

The father of one of the girls became suspicious and called up people in the film industry and asked the man to sign a written agreement. The man then disappeared but he continued calling the other girl.

The father immediately informed the police.

When he was confronted by the police, he said he was going to take the girls, aged 17 and 18 years, to work in a drayang in Thimphu
