Helicopter used for the first time to control forest fireA helicopter was used to control a forest fire for the first time in Bhutan. Airbus H130 could contain the fire above Sangaygang in Thimphu within about five hours which otherwise could have taken longer. The chopper poured about 1,000 litres of water every four minutes.

A DeSuup Coordinator, Kinley Tshering said the chopper controlled chances of fire rekindling and spreading.

Apart from the chopper, over 300 people including armed forces, DeSuups and local people also helped contain the fire.

The fire started at 12:30 in the afternoon from above Motithang Takin Preserve. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
