Rabies claims the life of a seven-year-old

A seven-year-old boy in Jigmeling, Gelephu died from rabies this afternoon.

According to doctors at the Gelephu central referral hospital the boy had already developed hydro-phobia or fear of water, a symptom of rabies, when he was brought to the hospital yesterday.

His parents said their son may have contract rabies from a scratch from his pet cat. He has not been bitten by any dog as far as they know.

The boy did not receive anti rabies vaccination.

Meanwhile 25 people including a two month old baby girl who came in contact with the deceased rushed to the hospital to get anti rabies vaccination.

The boy was a class one student of Jigmeling lower secondary school.
