The TV cables were suspended in most of the eastern dzongkhags last month after Bhutan Power Corporation asked the operators to remove the cable lines from the electric poles for safety reasons.
The people are also outraged because they cannot watch the live broadcast of the parliament session.
In Samdrupjongkhar the cable services were restored within two days. However Dewathang is still without cable service. Residents have no idea when they will get the service back.
Sonam Rinchen, a Dewathang resident, said “without a cable service, we cannot get information on the upcoming elections and the important discussions in ongoing parliament.”
Kinley, another resident, said “if the cable service is not restored within a month we want 50 percent of the security deposit back.”
Tshering Choki is not happy without TV because cannot watch the serials and the singing competition on BBS.
The Yuden Cable Network which provides cable service in Dewathang said they erecting separate poles to Dewathang which is 18 kilometres from Samdrupjongkhar proper. He is worried about the overhead because there aren’t many subscribers.
The majority of people are armed force personnel. They have their own network.
Some of the residents are considering subscribing for DTH or buy their own dish.
