Bhutan’s team camped near TirsuliThe special medical and rescue team deployed from Bhutan to lend assistance to Nepal in earthquake relief efforts is now camped near Tirsuli under Nuwakot District. Nawukot, located about 80 kilometre toward south-west of Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu is one of the worst hit districts.

Patients from Nuwakot and Rasuwa Districts are being referred to Bhutan medical relief camp in Nuwakot District Hospital. Otherwise, they were being referred directly to Kathmandu.


BBS reporter Sonam Wangdi, who is following Bhutan’s team, says more and more injured people are being brought to the camp. “Some are being brought in through helicopters, some ambulance and few on two-wheelers.”

Reports say over 500 died in Nuwakot district until yesterday. Many still remain injured and to be rescued.

Bhutan is one among many other countries providing relief support to Nepal after a massive earthquake hit the country on Saturday.

The 63-member team was deputed under the Royal Command of His Majesty the King. The team left for Nepal on Monday.

The Bhutanese medical team reached Tirsuli, Nuwakot at around 11 yesterday morning.

Many houses have been reduced to rubble and others are precarious perched in Tirsuli area just like many parts of Nepal.

The 7.8 magnitude quake destroyed buildings in Kathmandu and affected several rural areas across the region.

As of today, the death toll due to the earthquake rose to over 5,000 people across Nepal. Nepal’s Prime Minister, Sushil Koirala has warned the toll could reach 10,000.

United Nation’s report states that about 8 million people in 39 districts have been affected by the disaster.

Meanwhile, as the search for survival continues, Nepal has declared three days of mourning since yesterday.
