Investigation launched into Bumthang fire

An investigation has been launched today to find out cause of the major fire in Chamkhar town, Bhutan which reduced 31 houses to ashes yesterday morning.

This is the third major fire in Chamkhar town this year. The fires which occurred within a span of seven months have ignited speculations that they may have been started deliberately.

Meeting the people who were affected by the fire, the Home and Cultural Affairs Minister Lyonpo Minjur Dorji said a thorough investigation will be carried out to find the cause of the fire. He also offered a reward of Nu.50, 000 to anybody who can help establish that the fire was started deliberately and arrest the miscreants.

The investigation team is led by Colonel Dorji Wangchuk of the Royal Bhutan Police’s crime branch. The Chief of Police assured that the people that the identity of the informer will be kept confidential.
