Aim for 100 percent employment, PM tells task force members

Aim for 100 percent employment, PM tells task force members--Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay told members of the special task force for employment creation to aim for 100 percent employment even if it was not possible. He said the responsibility fell on them to employ every talented and potential youth who seriously wanted to work.

Lyonchhen met the task force, which comprises of 28 members today. He asked them to revisit the report prepared by them before it was submitted to the cabinet for implementation. He asked them to go through again to take forward the report.

The agriculture sector, which has set the target of more than 6,000 job opportunities was asked to see how to support those interested individuals in taking up farming and that the members needed to think of providing training for those interested to establish small farms. “Since there is a lot of opportunities in agriculture and livestock, there is also a need to see how to expand it also,” Lyonchhen told the members.

Lyonchhen said as most youth themselves could not identify what opportunities were there while establishing cottage and small industries, BOIC must help them in identifying it. Lyonchhen also said there was a need to think well on where to establish more successful companies so that more employment opportunities could be created than the set target.

Lyonchhen urged the members to look at the opportunities for self-employment by coming up with a list of areas in which the youth could venture into.

He said for the job opportunities to increase in private sector, there should be economic development in the country.

Lyonchhen said if there were investments, it was important to think also about the job opportunities it was going to create. He said the private sector should be given preference first to invest, followed by the corporate bodies like Druk Holding and Investments (DHI) and if there was no one to invest, it should be looked into about what government could do if there was no one to invest.

The Minister of Labour and Human Resources, Ngeema Sangay Tshempo, said that with time constraints, the task force members could not deliberate much on big projects.
