Three men sent to jail for tobacco smuggling

The Paro district court has sentenced the three men who were being tried for smuggling tobacco to three years in prison. They have all been found guilty of smuggling.

The three men are Chogyel Gyeltshen, a Drukair engineer, Sonam Tshewang, an army officer and Tshering Jamtsho, a constable. They were arrested in March.

Drukair engineer Chogyel Gyeltshen had bought the 200 sticks of cigarettes from Bangkok. He handed over the cigarettes to Constable Tshering Jamtsho who was on duty at the airport to be given to army officer Sonam Tshewang.
