Community information centres to be managed by BDBL

Community information centres to be managed by BDBLThe government is firm about its decision to hand over management of community information centres to Bhutan Development Bank Limited (BDBL) from Bhutan Post.

Despite opposing views from the Opposition, information and communication minister, DN Dhungyal said the government will officially hand over the community information centres to BDBL in a couple of days.

The Cabinet had decided to change the management in January.

Bhutan Post had been operating community information centers for the last three years.

The Opposition had earlier said the decision would severely affect the quality of services of Community Information Centres in the gewogs.

They had also said if the community information centres are managed by BDBL, there could be a conflict of interest as BDBL’s mandate is just to provide loans to rural people.

There are more than 100 community information centres in gewogs across the country to provide internet services and G2C services to the people.
