Member of judiciary surrenders Kabney and Patang

Member of judiciary surrenders Kabney and PatangFor the first time, a member of the judiciary surrendered his Kabney and Patang to the Chairman of the Royal Privy Council, today. Drangpon Ugyen Tenzin, 60, after serving for nearly four decades, superannuated, last month.

Surrendering of Kabney and Patang symbolises the end of his tenure.

Ugyen Tenzin, from Bumthang, began his career as a registrar in the judiciary in 1977 and also worked in the Thimphu District Court. From 2008 until last month he worked in the His Majesty’s Secretariat.

Kabney of a drangpon is position-tied which means upon resigning or retiring they must pass it on to their successors.

But, former public servants continue to wear the Kabney even after resigning or retiring from a post.

The Royal Civil Service Commission is urging all civil servants to follow the example voluntarily so that the commission does not have to enforce the rule.
