Govt undermining Opposition and public: DPT

Govt undermining Opposition and public DPTThe Opposition Party says the government has demonstrated total disregard for the role of Opposition and are sounding increasingly reckless and indifferent to public opinion and rule of law.

The press release issued by Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT), today, on the three “reassigned” government secretaries, says the Prime Minister, as usual, shrugged off his responsibility by simply saying that the Opposition’s stand is meaningless and damaging.

The Prime Minister, during the recent Meet the Press had said the Opposition’s stand on the three “reassigned” secretaries, was meaningless and damaging.

“It is clear from the way government speak, and from what they have said, that the Cabinet has not taken the issue seriously and do not consider it a matter of national importance,” says the Opposition.

The press release also says, “the Prime Minister’s logic has lost any meaning and his now well-known habit of rewording and rephrasing his words to bail himself and his cabinet out was in play again”.

It also says the Opposition Party has, in no way, attacked the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC). “In fact it has acknowledged that the RCSC has subscribed to the procedures laid out in dealing with the case of surrendered civil servants.”

During an hour long press conference today, the Opposition Leader, Dr. Pema Gyamtsho said Economic Affairs Minister, Norbu Wangchuk is constantly changing his statement on the issue confusing the Opposition and public.

He also said the Cabinet has to take accountability for violating certain sections of  Bhutan Civil Service Rules and Regulations, Civil Service Act and the Constitution of Bhutan.

RCSC had decided to reassign the three “surrendered” secretaries after they had conducted an investigation.

The government had “surrendered” the Cabinet Secretary, Dasho Penden Wangchuk, Economic Affairs Secretary, Dasho Sonam Tshering and Foreign Affairs Secretary, Yeshey Dorji to the RCSC in December, last year.

They were “surrendered” for supposedly exceeding their mandates, breaching rules and misusing the Committee of Secretaries.
