Apr 30, 2011

In Paro, the district court on Thursday held the third hearing on the tobacco smuggling case involving an army officer and a Drukair engineer.

The Drukair engineer who was accused of buying the cigarettes for the army officer is arguing that he did not smuggle the tobacco products.

He bought 10 packets of cigarettes from Bangkok, kept one for his own consumption, and handed over the remaining nine packets to the constable to be given to the army officer. He said he declared his cigarettes to the customs and expected that the constable would do the same.
