Projects worth Rs.4.5 BN approved under SDPC

SDPC MeetingThe second meeting of the Bhutan-India Small Development Project Committee (SDPC) was held in Thimphu, today.

The meeting reviewed the implementation status of the first batch of SDP projects approved in March 2014 and considered the project proposals submitted for the second batch.

Some of the major projects approved are; blacktopping gewog connectivity roads, construction of farm roads, irrigation channels, suspension bridges, water supply scheme and additional facilities for 12 schools under School Reform Programme.

With the approval of 257 new projects in the second SDPC meeting, 303 projects worth over Rs.4.5 BN have been approved, including those of the first batch projects.

The remaining close to Rs.4 BN will be programmed in subsequent SDPC meetings, tentatively planned in between June and July next year for the third batch projects and December, 2015 for the fourth batch projects.

The leader of the Indian delegation conveyed the assurance of the Ambassador of India, Gautam Bambawale that the Government of India would make all required funds available and release them on time for the smooth implementation of the projects.
