NA passes Doha Amendments to Kyoto Protocol

Doha Amendments to Kyoto Protocol The National Assembly passed the Doha Amendments to the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, today. However, some of the Parliamentarians said if it would be possible to reduce green house gas emission to 18 percent from 2013 to 2020.

Tashichhoeling MP, Ritu Raj Chhetri said many green house gas emitter countries in the world have redrawn from the negations. He said the low emitter countries have gained nothing. “Reducing overall emission by 5 percent in the commitment period of 2008-2012 has also not been achieved.”

However, the Opposition Leader Dr. Pema Gyamtsho said Bhutan is known in the world for its environment conservation and the country’s initiative to be carbon neutral. He also said Bhutan has benefited in many ways.

The United Nations Brief on Doha Amendments to the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change will be finalised next year during Conference of Parties in France.
