Controversial Buli-Tsaidang road still inaccessible

Buli-TsaidangRoadEven after all these years, the controversial Buli-Tsaidang farm road is inaccessible to the people, most of the time. It took nine years to complete the 19-kilometre road in Zhemgang.

“The road hasn’t benefited us at all,” said Dhuenmang Tshogpa, Tshering Gyelpo. He said even while completing the road, they had issues with alignment. The road is blocked frequently, especially during monsoon, he added.

The road was to benefit close to 150 households of Dhuenmang under Namgkhor Gewog, Negyer and three chiwogs under Buli.

However, the stretch from Tsaidang to Buli is covered in thick bushes.

“We can only drive heavy vehicles,” said a local resident, Lham Dorji.

The gewog took over the construction of the road in 2012 from the dzongkhag. “It would take some time for the road improvement works to be complete,” said Nangkhor Gup, Dorji Wangchuk.

He said the weather condition and unforeseen circumstances make completion of the work difficult.

The construction of the Buli-Tsaidang farm road began in 2006. The work, worth Nu.20 MN, was awarded to a contractor. However, the dzongkhag had to take over in 2009, after the contractor could not complete the work.

In 2012, the work became the gewog’s responsibility.
