New Lag Thram process to complete by year end

NewLagtharmThe National Land Commission, NLC, plans to complete the issuance of the new lag thrams or land title certificates in all the Dzongkhags by the end of this year. This is the spillover activities of National Cadastral Resurvey Programme. The Commission said people expect to get new lag thrams in a very short period of time. “But it takes time the Commission said.

The Secretary of the Commission said that public should know that there are lots of processes involved to generate new lag thrams. “It has to go through series of process in validation. In field also, once the field survey has been done, surveyor and the land owner in the presence of site tshogpa and local elders must validate.

“In field there are check and balances also. We don’t give it to individuals to complete the process. So while in field, is different issue, once it comes to National Land Commission for generation of Lag thram, there are many processes,” explains the Secretary, Pema Chewang.

Meanwhile, some of the landowners said if the Commission could speed up the process of issuing new lag thram, it would benefit them a lot.

However, the Commission said they would deploy additional manpower and train them to tackle such issues.

With issuance of lag thram to Trashigang Dzongkhag and seven local areas of Thimphu Thromde, the National Land Commission has so far issued lag thrams to 10 Dzongkhags and a Thromde.

The spillover activities of National Cadastral Resurvey Programme was initiated in 2012.
