36 students, suspected of peripheral neuropathy, being treated

neurropathy outbreak-GongphuLSS-Zhemgang--Thirty Six students of Gongphu Lower Secondary School, apparently suffering from peripheral neuropathy, in Zhemgang, are being treated. They are being given supplementary drugs like mass vitamins.

The school had come to know about the outbreak after a few students complained of swollen legs to the school Authority.


The School’s Principal, Karma Tenzin, said only a few students were suffering from swollen legs and they were treated in the Basic Health Unit. But, in the next nine days, the principal said, the number increased. They had to ask help from Yebilaptsha hospital.

The principal also said they are providing quality diets and maintain hygiene too.

A group of health officials form Thimphu has arrived at the location and is investigating the cause.
