Manhole covers stolen

ManholeAbout 20 manhole covers have been stolen from Babesa in Thimphu, in the past few weeks. The manhole covers could have been stolen to be sold to scarp dealers, says the Thimphu Thrompon, Kinlay Dorjee.

He said they have reported it to the police and that this isn’t the first case.

The Thrompon added, if police take this issue seriously and check with scrap dealers and send a word to the checkpoints, the culprits would be caught.

But the scrap dealers in the Thimphu say they do not entertain people who come with suspicious-looking scrap.

A scrap dealer in Changzamtok, Thimphu, Hangmati Limbu, says they have learnt never to deal with suspicious-looking scrap. “We were dragged to the court and taken to the police station.”

The manholes in Babesa were constructed just seven months ago.
