Phuentshogling Court asks men involved in Gecko case to pay fine

PlingDungkhagCourt-TokeyGecko--The Phuentshogling Dungkhag Court has asked the Naja Gup of Paro and two other men involved in a Gecko case to pay a fine of Nu. 100,000 each to the Department of Forest and Park Services.

The verdict was passed on October 10 and the fine should be paid within 15 days from the day the verdict was passed.

The Forest Protection and Surveillance Unit had found one of the involved with three live Tokey Geckos on January 7 this year from Phuentshogling.

The men were asked to pay a fine of Nu. 100,000 for each Gecko. However, they failed to pay the fine even after several extensions of the deadline, says the verdict.

The case was forwarded to the court in April.

Initially, only two men were accused and fined. However, the involvement of the third man, Naja Gup surfaced during the hearings at the court.

Meanwhile, one of the involved, who is from Chhukha is still at large.

He was not available for any hearings of the case. The court has issued default judgment against him.

The verdict also says an arrest warrant has been already issued. If arrested, the man will be sentenced to three months in prison for contempt of court and will be fined, Nu.100, 000.
