Land Commission did not carry out scientific investigation: OAG

Land Commission did not carry out scientific investigation- OAG(Update): The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) said the Land Commission did not carry out any scientific investigation to cross-check the handwriting of their officials.

The OAG was submitting their rebuttal against the Land former Land Record Officer, Sonam Norbu, in Thimphu District Court, today.

OAG has accused Sonam Norbu of colluding with the former Royal Advisory Councillor, Chang Ugyen. OAG had charged Sonam Norbu of tampering and manipulating documents to favor Chang Ugyen to acquire 3.02 acres land in Omkha and 7 acres in Lubding in Lungtenphu.

Sonam Norbu had submitted to the court earlier, that he neither had tempered with nor manipulated any documents to increase the land holdings of  Chang Ugyen.

OAG also said Sonam Norbu  was the dealing officer in 1987 during the renewal of Sathram of Chang and Kawang Gewog. Chang Ugyen was serving as the Gup of Chang Gewog then in 1987-89.

Sonam Norbu denied the allegations and said the OAG’s investigation on handwriting should be carried out properly. He also said he was just an officer, carrying out his duty, under the supervision of his superiors.

OAG also submitted to the court that Sonam Norbu was given three acres of Sokshing land as a bribe in name of Sonam Norbu’s late mother in-law.

Sonam Norbu will present his argument on October 21.
