Her Majesty launches the Bhutan GeoSpatial Portal

Her Majesty launches the Bhutan Geo Spatial portalHer Majesty the Gyaltsuen launched the Bhutan GeoSpatial Portal, today. The portal was developed by the National Land Commission and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).

The portal’s purpose is to help urban planners and society for the efficient socio-economic development of the country.

Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen also graced the Geo-Information expo at the National Land Commission. The expo showcased all the information about the earth.


The Secretary of the National Land Commission explained the Bhutan GeoSpatial Portal will have all the information on road networks, river basins, schools, health centres and other infrastructure.

The Secretary said the portal will be useful to track the location in case of fire hazards.

Bhutan is the first country to have a GeoSpatial Portal developed by ICIMOD. ICIMOD officials say as the portal gets advanced, more applications will be developed which will eventually benefit the society.

The Royal government has planned to have such GeoSpatial Portal some 14 years ago.
