Indian Ambassador impressed with Mangdechhu’s progress

Mangdechhu-Hydro-ElectricProjectThe Indian Ambassador said he is impressed with the progress of the Mangdechhu Hydro Electric Project. Ambassador Gautam Bambawale visited the 720 mega watt Hydro Electric Project, last week. The Ambassador also assured the Government of India’s support to the hydro power projects in the country.

“The project is proceeding so well and it will complete on time, and will be completed by 2017.”

On the project cost escalation, he said it is inevitable and that it should not be a big concern.


Ambassador Bambawale also said India is committed towards meeting the target of producing 10,000 MW electricity by 2020.

He added there are a large number of hydro electric projects on the table but said Bhutan and India should first focus on projects at hand.

The construction of the Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project is scheduled to be complete in September 2017.

While in Trongsa, the ambassador also visited the Dzong and met with the dzongkhag officials.
