Paro’s Naja Gup accused of extracting timber illegally

NajaGup-tree-Jimna..A few of the local residents is alleging the Paro’s Naja Gup, Kado, of extracting timber from the government’s land, illegally. He is said to have cut down about 100 trees from the forest nearby the land in Jimna, he previously owned.

A local, Tobgye said he can vouch for the gup’s wrong-doing since he was present when the survey was done, three years back. Tobgye’s sister also owns land in Jimna.

The gup denied the allegations. He says the accusations are to defame him. If the allegations are true, the gup said, they should report it to the authorities concerned rather than blowing it up in the media.

However, the gup had sold the land to a man from Haa, Tandin Dorji, three years back.

Tandin Dorji said he was the one who had actually cut down the trees after he was told that it fell within the land he had bought from the gup.
