Bhutan-China border talks begin

Bhutan-China BorderTalksA three-day technical Expert Group meeting on the Bhutan-China Boundary talk began in the capital, yesterday.

The expert group meeting was decided during the 22nd round of border talks held earlier in July in China.

The Bhutanese delegation is led by the Secretary for International Boundaries, Dasho Pema Wangchuk. And the eight-member Chinese delegation is led by the Counsellor of the Asian Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Boundary talks with China began in 1984.

The basis for boundary negotiations between the two countries are based on two treaties: the guiding principles on the settlement of the boundary issues, signed in 1988, and the agreement on the maintenance of peace and tranquillity along the border areas, signed in 1998.
