Bhutan-Swiss- Visa waiver for diplomatic and officials passport holders signedThe diplomatic and official passport holders of Bhutan and Switzerland can travel to either of the countries without obtaining a visa. They will be able to stay up to 90 days in without a visa.

An understanding to this effect was signed between the representatives of Bhutan and Switzerland, today.

The Foreign Affairs Secretary and the Ambassador of Switzerland to Bhutan signed the understanding at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang.


The agreement however, does not include exemption for business travellers and tourists. Swiss tourists will continue to require a tourist visa and will be subjected to the royalty as before.

A press release says the Visa Waiver, for officials and diplomats, is an expression of trust and solidarity and of the desire to further strengthen ties between the two countries.

The arrangement is also expected to facilitate official travel between the two countries and strengthen contacts and cooperation, says the release.
