Inflation hits highest in July

Inflation-Highest.The inflation hit the highest in the country in July, this year, states the latest Consumer Price Index. The overall inflation in that particular month was 2.17 percent, which was higher than in June. It stood at 0.61 percent in June.

The increase means a commodity costing Nu.100 in June costs Nu.102.17 in July.

The National Statistics Bureau’s Officer, Penjor Gyeltshen, said the increase is steep. “Normally, the increase is either one or less than one percent.”

The increase in the inflation, Penjor Gyeltshen said was due to increase in fuel and vehicle prices, and electricity tariff.
