Bhutan received 152 power tillers worth around Nu. 52.4 million from the Japanese government today under the KR II grant. The Japanese Ambassador to Bhutan, Takeshi Yagi, officially handed over the machinery to the Agriculture and Forests Minister.
The power tillers are from the 2012 project, which is the second last batch to be received from the KR II grant. Each set of machinery is worth over Nu. 345,000. It will be distributed to underprivileged farmers. It will be sold at subsidised rate of around Nu. 210,000 each.
The Government of Japan has been supporting Bhutan’s efforts of farm mechanisation by providing nearly 3,000 power tillers through twenty-three KR II projects since 1984.
