Farm road woes in Jigme Chhoeling

Farm road woes in Jigme ChhoelingThe farm road in Khamaed Chiwog under Jigme Chhoeling Gewog in Sarpang is in a poor state. Residents say it has to be maintained if it is to benefit the people.

The condition of the 4.8 kilometre farm road further deteriorates during the monsoon rendering it unusable.

Apart from people of Khamaed Chiwog, the farm road is also used by people of Chhoentenkhar, Gongduegang and Gongtsekha Chiwogs.

“It has been more than 30 years since it was constructed. The road can be used only during winter,” said a resident of Jigme Chhoeling, Bala Ram.

Another resident, Wangchuk, said given the poor condition of the road, only big vehicles, like Bolero, can ply. “That too when it doesn’t rain.”Farm road woes in Jigme Chhoeling.

The gewog administration says maintenance work for the entire stretch  cannot be done at once. It has to be done phase-wise due to budget constraint.

Jigme Chhoeling’s Mangmi, Kumar Gurung said the gewog receives Nu. 200,000, in the first phased followed by Nu. 150,000 and Nu 300,000.

According to the people, maintaining farm road in bits and pieces is not beneficial as the part that has been maintained would get damaged by the time works on the other one begins.
