Government offices and schools in the country remained closed for the day, today, to observe the death anniversary of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel.

In Thimphu, residents visited Lhakhangs and Goendeys, including the Memorial Chorten and Changangkha Lhakhang.
Zhabdrung Kuchoe is observed on the tenth day of the third Bhutanese month. Zhabdrung Nawang Namgyel entered into meditation when he was 58 for 12 years at the Puna Dewai Chenpoi Phodrang in 1651.
Zhabdrung’s death was announced years later. Until then, it was believed that he was meditating.
