Impassable road cuts off Paro’s Bjatokha village

Farmroad-Bjatokha village-ParoA two-kilometre farm road in Bjatokha village in Paro remains unusable as a result of heavy rainfall, last year, cutting off the village from the main road. The road is impassable even on foot.

The farm road, cleared in 2011, connects three communities of the village to the main road. Villagers say after a year of its construction, the condition of the road began to deteriorate. It became completely unusable by 2013.

The villagers say their previous Gewog Administration Officer had put up in the plans to repair the road. However, they say, he was transferred before the repair works could begin.Farmroad-Bjatokha village--Paro

“Documents were ready and we even put our initials on it. But then we heard that he got transferred and our plans disappeared,” said a villager, Dorji.

Another villager, Tshewang Dorji, said they are facing many problems with a proper road. He said they depend on their vegetable produce for their income. “But now we cannot even take our produce to the market.”

Naja Gup, Kado, says he has not received the money to start the works. “I was told the works would have to be done from the Gewog Budget. So I put it in the 2013-2-14 plans but have not yet received the money”

Gup Kado says the document is to grant the contract for repair works to the villagers. He said there is nothing mentioned in the document about the budget money being received and that villagers might have misunderstood it.
