The newly appointed Secretary General of the Colombo Plan Secretariat from Bhutan, Kinley Dorji, assumed his office on May 2. Kinley Dorji is the Sixth Secretary General of the Colombo Plan.
He was selected by the Colombo Plan Council from among nominees from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Fiji, Nepal, Iran and Sri Lanka last March.
Earlier, Kinley Dorji served as the Executive Director of the Bhutan Youth Development Fund since October 2013.
He also served as the Director of the Department of Human Resources, Ministry of Labour and Human Resources and as the Executive Director of the Bhutan Narcotic Control Agency.
Kinley Dorji joined the civil service in 1980.
According to the Secretary General, the Colombo Plan Secretariat can serve as an inter-governmental forum for consensus building for enhanced peace, harmony and friendship among all member states in the region and at the international level.
Colombo Plan was the first regional organisation to which Bhutan became a member in 1962.
