Tarayana’s agenda focuses on rural housing and skills development

TarayanaFoundation- rural housing and skills developmentSince its inception, Tarayana Foundation, a non-profit organisation, has helped improve livelihoods of almost 10,000 households in rural Bhutan. It has been 11 years since the foundation came into being.

The focus of the organisation will still be rural Bhutan. The foundation’s agenda, say they will target housing and skills development of rural people. The foundation will initiate natural farming programme to improve food and nutrition security in the rural pockets.

The President and Founder of the Tarayana Foundation, Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, launched the foundation’s agenda at the three-day Tarayana fair which began in Thimphu, today.TarayanaFoundation-- rural housing and skills development

“We are helping our communities make informed choices so that they avoid options that might be disruptive to the harmony they currently enjoy.”

Her Majesty the Queen Mother said it is heartening that many of rural youth are office bearers of various self-help groups. “…These self-help groups spearheaded sustainable socioeconomic development in the villages.”

Tarayana Foundation, at the moment, has spread its services to over 100 villages.

Meanwhile, Her Majesty the Queen Mother also presented Tarayana Foundation’s annual award for 2014 to the William Leong, the Managing Director of Leong Poh Kee Group of Companies in Singapore. He has been the supporting the foundation for a long time.
