PM and his delegation back from BIMSTEC summit

 

PM-Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and his delegation arrived in the country from Myanmar earlier today.  While in Myanmar, Prime Minister met the President, Thein Sein, and other leaders of the government of the Union of Myanmar and held bilateral talks. 

Prime Minister also met the Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, and the Leader of the Opposition of Myanmar, Aung Sung Su Kyi, on the sidelines of the summit.

The summit saw signing of two memoranda of association and a memorandum of understanding.

BIMSTEC- the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation- was formed in June 1997 to enhance economic cooperation between the countries of Southeast Asia and South Asia.

Bhutan became a member of BIMSTEC in 2004.

The Bhutanese delegation to 3rd BIMSTEC summit included Foreign Minister Rinzin Dorji, Foreign Secretary and other senior government officials.

The foreign minister said the summit was a success.
