Fire destroys 1000 acres of forest in Lhuntse

FireForestry officials and a team of volunteers including local people and Deesups are battling a forest fire in Lhuntse. The fire, which started around 9 AM yesterday, has so far destroyed over 1000 acres of forest between Rewan and Awtsho.

According to forestry officials, steep slope and strong wind in the forests fire area are hampering the efforts to contain the forest fire.

Currently, forestry officials and volunteer fire fighters are guarding the community forests and houses near the forest fire area.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.  Forestry officials are cautioning the travellers between Lhuntse and Mongar Highway of falling boulder near the forest fire area.
