NC Members Skeptical about ESP

NC-ESPThe members of the National Council yesterday recommended that sourcing external assistance to fulfill election pledges should be discontinued in future. Members said current Economic Stimulus Plan (ESP) should be the first and last of its kind.

The discussion on the ESP in the National Council saw a mixed reaction from the members. Members were also doubtful on how the ESP would serve its intended purpose.

Some of the members said depending on external funding to fulfill the election pledges, and how it would affect the independence and sovereignty of the country is a big concern.

The government will inject Nu. 2.1 Billion into the financial sectors. Another Nu. 1.9 billion will be kept as revolving fund.

Besides, a total of Nu. 200 million will be injected in the special support scheme. Of which, Nu. 110 million will be allocated to support pre-employment, Nu. 30 million to support higher education and Nu. 60 million will be for senior citizen scheme.

A total of Nu. 5 billion will be injected by the government under the economic stimulus package.

Meanwhile, the members recommended re-visit of the budget allocation for higher education and senior support among others.
