Industries are not under threat: PM

PM-IndustriesThe Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, said the government has no reasons to look at the current power tariff as they do not believe the industries are under threat. “Our industries are still healthy.”

Lyonchhen said the government is willing to support the industries, at the moment, only if they have issues related to technology and human resources development. He was answering the question posed by the journalists during Meet the Press session today.

“My own observation is that it is a good opportunity for the industries to enhance their competitiveness through other measures primarily technology and human resources.” He said the industrialists cannot rely on cheap power to turning profits in all times to come.

But, the Prime Minister said they will intervene and request for reevaluation if the current power tariff is affecting the industries so much so.

The power tariff revision came into effect in October, last year. For High Voltage consumers, the rate was revised to Nu. 2.09 per unit from Nu. 1.17.

The Prime Minister also said the government does not have a direct role in establishing the tariff rates.
