Power tariff revision brings Rs. 450 million to government’s coffer

Meet the Press-Power TariffThe government will receive an additional 450 million INR for the power exported to India from Chhukha Hydropower Project. The additional amount comes as a result of the recent power tariff revision. The rate was revised to Nu.2.25 per unit from Nu.2.

The economic affairs minister, Norbu Wangchuk, said Bhutan will henceforth continue to receive 450 million INR on top of 3.6 billion until the next tariff revision.

The power tariff revision comes after nine years. The next one will be finalised in 2016.

About 1,700 million units of electricity are exported to India from Chhukha Hydropower Project.

  1. This is not PDP’s achievement… You shouldn’t be proud of it… See, how PDP is happy when such kind of power generation helps Bhutan in generating revenue. Why I am saying this is, DPT was so much interested in constructing many Hydropower plants in Bhutan and make it self reliant through achieving such goals… but i clearly remember, during PDP’s campaign, it was not really their interest.
