After launching the website www.cleanbhutan.org, Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay, told the gathering that the project is important toward safeguarding the welfare of the nation and people. He also said people’s support and participation in this project is crucial.

PM-CleanBhutanProjectLyonchhen also spoke to the volunteers at Chubachhu saying it is the responsibility of everyone to protect and preserve what His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo has gifted.  “We must bring about major changes in our mindset and put in our sincere efforts to this cause.”

The project is dedicated to the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

The Clean Bhutan Project is an initiative that aims to save rivers from becoming dumping yards, clean trekking areas and make towns and villages in Bhutan waste free. The project aims to start off initially in Thimphu and Paro and then to the rest of the country.

Thimphu City alone generates 25 metric tons of waste every day. Just over 46 percent of that waste can be recycled, recovered or reused.
