Nu.73 million approved to finance environment initiatives

73 million-Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation.The Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation (BTFEC) has approved about Nu.73 million to support several environment initiatives.

Of the approved fund, about Nu.7 million will be diverted to the implementation of the conservation management plan of Toorsa Strict Nature Reserve. This project will ensure effective coordination of stakeholders for management of the reserve, according to a press release from BTFEC. It will also be used to equip and motivate the staff and maintain the ecological, cultural and historical integrity of the eco-system within the Reserve.

About Nu.2 million will be used to develop biomass to assess National Carbon Stock of Bhutan. About Nu.3.3 million will go towards supporting International Congress of Ethno Biology which will be held in 2014.73 million-Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation

The fund will also be diverted towards National Parks of Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary, Wangchuck Centennial Park, Jigme Dorji National Park and Department of Livestock, among others.

BTFEC is an independent grant making organisation for the promotion of social welfare through environment conservation. Since inception, BTFEC has awarded about Nu.1,188 million in 138 projects in the country.
