Lack of proper pitch affecting cricketers’ performance

LackofCricketPitchLack of proper ground to practice is affecting their performance according to the cricketers of the country.

The national cricket players are currently practicing at the Yangchenphu Higher Secondary School’s play ground. “This is not even a standard training ground,” said one of the players.

They describe lack of proper training ground as a major drawback in taking the game forward. Uneven and dusty pitches, they said, does little in advancing their skills. “It has taken toll on the team’s ability to perform well at the international matches,” said the National Cricket Coach, Damber S Gurung.

He said grooming players to come up with sophisticated game tactics has not been possible, given the lack of a proper practicing ground.

The Bhutan Cricket Council Board said efforts are underway to have a cricket pitch developed in Gelegphu.

The Bhutan Cricket Council Board was established in 2001. Bhutan made its debut in international cricket match in 2003. Bhutan, currently, is ranked 48th in the world.
