Footpaths in Thimphu need repairing

FootpathThimphu City is home to over 100,000 people, according to the National Statistic Bureau. Thousands of them walk the streets of Thimphu every day. But not all the footpaths in the city are pedestrian friendly.

Our Reporter, Tenzin Rabgay, who went around Thimphu city to compile the report, said there are several areas that need immediate attention. The concrete slabs that used to cover the area are gone and could prove fatal for pedestrian. There is also no railing to prevent people falling off the stretch.

The Thimphu Thrompon, Kinlay Dorjee, said they are unable to carry out the maintenance owing to budget constraints. He said the focus, at the moment, is maintenance of roads. “We will start repairing the footpaths from July.”
