Odd numbers evened out

Jan 25, 2011

Office goers around the Tashichhodzong vicinity no longer have to play the odd and even number game. Entry inside the parking area which was allowed according to the vehicle registration numbers, odd numbers on one day and even numbers the next day, has been lifted from today.

This has been made possible with the completion of the new parking area. It can accommodate about 150 vehicles.

The odd and even number system was introduced in April 2009 to ease vehicle congestion in the parking area, forcing civil servants to park their cars in Langjozam area or along the road near the high court and walk to the offices.

G.B Chettri, a civil servant, said “with the opening of the parking area, almost all the vehicles will be allowed to park near the office space. It will be very convenient us.”

Singye Wangmo believes that “the lifting of the parking restrictions will save time, and the trouble. We feel insecure because there were instances where cars have been found vandalised.”

The Superintendent of the Traffic Division, Major Passang Dorji said about 160 vehicles can be accommodated in the new parking area and about 200 cars in the existing area.

It will ease congestion in the area.
