Appeal submitted to merge Dakphay with Trong

Dakphay village. The 17 households of Dakphay village, under Nangkhor Gewog, in Zhemgang, have submitted a written appeal to the dzongkhag administration to amalgamate their village with Trong Gewog. Dakphay is 19 kilometres away from Zhemgang town.

The villagers say their present gewog centre, which they have to often visit for official matters, is too far. The gewog centre is 36 kilometres away from the village and it takes about two and a half hours ride on the rough road to reach the centre.

“We cannot find transportation as and when we have to visit the gewog centre,” said Lhakpa Tsering of Dakphay. He said the problem become grimmer when they are called for urgent meetings.

It takes just about an hour or so for the villagers to reach Trong Gewog.

“We have submitted the written appeal to the dzongkhag administration but we are yet to hear from them,” said Sangay Lhadon, a farmer in Dakphay.

The Zhemgang Dzongkhag Administration says they are aware of the inconvenience. The Zhemgang Dzongrab, Mani Sangay, says the Department of Local Governance under the Ministry of Home and Culture Affairs had instructed them to relook and revisit such hassle faced by the villagers in other areas as well and submit  the findings accordingly.

“We have submitted the proposal to DLG and hopefully it will materialise soon,” said the dzongrab.

Apart from Dakphay, there are many other villages around the country facing similar problem.
