FAO’s representative calls on the Prime Minister

PM-FAO-Somsak-PipoppinyoThe Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) Representative to Bhutan, Somsak Pipoppinyo, called on the Prime Minister this morning.

During the meeting, Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay, stated that although formal relations with FAO started only in 1981, Bhutan has greatly benefited from it since 1973, when the Bhutan and FAO executed UNDP funded development projects.

Lyonchhen requested the new FAO Representative to provide additional support for new ideas and priorities.

Lyonchhen said that some of the priority areas for Bhutan are addressing human-wildlife conflict, development of irrigation schemes, vegetable self-sufficiency, development of poultry and seed production among others.

Mr. Pipoppinyo expressed assured that FAO would have the expertise to take the priorities of RGoB.
