The wedding of His Royal Highness Prince Jigme Dorji Wangchuck to Yeatso Lhamo took place at the Domkhar Tashichoeling Palace in Bumthang, yesterday.
His Majesty the King, the Gyaltsuen, His Holiness the Je-Khenpo, His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo, Queen mothers, along with the Prime Minister and other government officials, graced the wedding celebration.
Thousands of people gathered at the Domkhar Tashichoeling Palace to witness the wedding.
The Royal Bride arrived at the domkhar palace in a chipdrel procession, while His Royal Highness Prince Jigmi Dorji Wangchuck waited outside the courtyard. The Royal Couple then exchanged Tashi Jel-Dhar. Sungtrul Rinpoche performed the Throe-Soel ceremony followed by a marching ceremony by the Bumthang Dzongda.
Other members of the Royal family, and the Yab and Yum of the Royal Bride were present during the ceremony.
The Tashi-ngasoel ceremony was presided over by His holiness the Je khenpo with the chanting of the Ngoe-drup-langwan for the accumulation of spiritual and worldly virtues. The Royal Couple was then offered Tashi-Zegye and Tashi Ta Gye followed by Zhug-drel phuensum tshogpa. The Royal couple was also offered a sip of alcohol and milk by a person born in the year of Dog. The Tashi Ngasoel ceremony concluded with Tashi Moenlam.
The Royal couple was granted Tashi-Lek Dhar by His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, His Holiness the Je Khenpo, members of the Royal family and the Prime Minister.
The Royal couple along with members of the Royal family granted an audience to thousands of well-wishers. The Royal couple interacted with the people while cultural programmes were performed by students and locals.
The Domkhar Tashichoeling Palace was built by the second Druk Gyalpo Jigme Wangchuck in 1937 as a summer palace.
