Bhutan experiencing peripheral impact of Cyclone Phailin

The Bhutan Department of Hydro-Meteorological Service says Bhutan is feeling only the peripheral impact of Cyclone Phailin.

The tentative report on the extent of damages caused by the cyclone has started to come in. Paro is probably the worst-hit dzongkhag.

The Mangi Ap of Lango gewog says heavy rainfall damaged about 7-8 acres of paddy. If the rain continues, he says, more will be damaged.

The Paro Dzongda, Chencho Tshering, said the agriculture team is already in the field verifying the extent of damage caused by Cyclone Phailin. They will be able to come up with the verification only in the evening.

The Department of Disaster Management is compiling the report on the extent of damages caused by the cyclone in the country. They will be ready with the tentative report in about a couple of hours.

The Bhutan Department of Hydro-Meteorological Service, on the other hand, says Bhutan has no capacity to forecast weather two to three days ahead. The update fortomorrow’s weather will come in in the afternoon.

BBS’ reporter in Trongsa, Surja Man Thapa, says no damage has been reported in Trongsa as yet.
